world updates
Early Summer, Year One
  • This is an example of a World Update, which could include site-wide events, a thread in a specific Kingdom, or even just a character highlight.

  • A second update can go here. They can be virtually any length, but will be kept short for organization.

  • Look! A wild third update has appeared. Better throw a pokeball at it.

Epilogue
Character Appearance

We’ve taken great care to make sure there are a wide variety of options which you may employ when creating your first (or latest) character.

Fur Color & Types
Fur and colors should be relatively natural, with exceptions made for albinism, melanism, blondes, reds, etc. The chart to the right shows a variety of all the currently accepted fur colors on Lycaenos. Players have flexibility in terms of length and style of their character’s fur. Short coats, long coats, ‘manes’ and the like are welcome within reason.

Coat Patterns & Markings
Characters are welcome to have a variety of coat patterns and markings at players’ discretion, so long as they are kept relatively realistic. Markings such as piebald, those caused by vitiligo, roaning, etc are allowed. Characters may also exhibit markings reflective of some domestic breeds, primarily huskies or shepherds as an example. Distinct or shapely markings such as lightning bolts, hearts, symbols or anything else unnatural are not allowed. Scars and other skin abnormalities within reason (no fur-less characters, for instance) are acceptable. Characters may not boast genetic or body mutations such as horns, wings, etc.

Eye Color & Shapes
Characters may exhibit any eye color, and may also have any mixture of shades. Heterochromia (two eyes of different colors) is also welcome. Characters with pupil-less or misshapen pupils should provide a health-related backstory to accompany this deformity. Completely white eyes (and pupil-less) would be considered blind, and should be played appropriately.

Character Body Type

Body types play a key role in the world of Lyca. Different body types have different advantages, disadvantages, and abilities as seen below.

Body Classes
A character's body class is used to determine the level of strength, speed and agility they possess. Larger, meatier characters - while stronger than lighter types - will be slower moving, for example. When choosing your character's body class be sure to consider each type carefully so as to write them to the best of your ability.

Brute Class - Strength & Muscle focus. These wolves are meaty and thick, with a propensity to move more slowly yet their bite strength and overall mass are unparalleled.

Harrier Class - Speed & Agility focus. These wolves are lithe and thinner of body, capable of great bursts of speed and high agility but susceptible to be overpowered by stronger wolves in close combat.

Synth Class - Moderate Speed & Agility focus. These wolves are a comfortable mix of both Brute & Harrier, capable of moderate strength as well as speed.

Body Types
Used in conjunction with Body Classes, Body Types are used to determine a character's height. While not measured in inches, players are expected and encouraged to play their character(s) appropriately and not to overly push outliers.

Tall - The largest wolves in Lyca in terms of height.

Medium - Wolves of average height.

Short - The smallest wolves in Lyca in terms of height.

Players will see the above Type and Class reflected on their posts and character profiles as such: Tall Harrier, or Medium Brute for examples.

Adornments

In their travels outside and within Lycaenos, characters are likely to have come across remnants of the human civilization that used to call it home. These items - along with natural adornments hewn from nature - are capable of being worn.

Adornments & Accessories
Smaller adornments and accessories can come in both the natural and human variety. Necklaces, bones, feathers, cuffs and the like may all be found and worn by characters at their leisure, providing they offer no in-character advantage during roleplay. When designing these adornments, please be sure that they fit the era of Ancient Greece in which Lyca takes place.

Weapons and armor are not currently permitted, nor are robes and other cloth-like items. Leather pouches, if found, may be used to collect and store herbs, etc.

Growth & Aging

As we run on double-time, characters within Lyca will age more quickly. This allows players to grow their child-characters into adults much more quickly.

Growth Rate
Wolves within Lyca age at a realistic rate, beginning as newborns and ending as elderly characters. When creating your character or preparing to play a pup from a new litter, bear in mind that pups under the age of 3 months old are - for the most part - unplayable based on their limited mobility. Likewise, new or adopted characters under the age of 4 months are not likely to survive unless arriving with a parent or a guardian to care for them.

Surnames & Family History

Lyca's history is steeped in the lives and deaths of the Wolves, dating back to the birth of the Gods. Your character's history will be their own.

Surnames
Surnames or family names are not required onsite, but many players may choose to use them for characters who have a history within - or outside - of Lycaenos. Surnames (also presented as a last name) can be anything you wish, and are representative to the mark they might make onsite during their time here and will pass to their progeny, spouses, etc as players deem fit. Likely, family lines and specific surnames will garner respect (or vitriol, dependent on how they're played).

Family History
Dependent on whether your character was born in Lycaenos or is arriving as a traveler, their personal history within the land is yours to shape as players see fit, so long as they respect the boundaries of other players and their characters. Do not, for example, use another character's surname without that player's permission. The world outside of Lyca is vast and immeasurable, so all manner of outside cultures might find themselves here.

Nation & Element Affiliation

Unless born into a Nation (or you're adopting a ranked wolf) your new character will be considered a Wanderer by default.

Wanderers
All characters -- unless born into a Nation or being adopted with a rank through the Adoptables forum -- will enter Lycaenos as a Wanderer. They are considered free-wolves with no official political ties, but because of this they have no ability to wield any type of magic. Historically this doesn't impact whether or not they are a native to Lycaenos or newly arriving; Wanderers simply have had no prior Nation affiliation given that nations are a newly-introduced concept to the land. Until they pledge themselves to a Nation and are welcomed into the pack, they will be magic-less. While many might consider this a downside, some wolves may well embrace their lack of magic particularly if they have chosen to spurn or otherwise disregard the existence of the Pantheon.

Nation Wolves
Characters who have chosen to pledge themselves to a Nation are pledging themselves to the very magical element it represents. In so doing, they are then able to visit the Atlas Stones and be granted the magic of their packland and take up the Rank assigned to them.
