world updates
Early Summer, Year One
  • This is an example of a World Update, which could include site-wide events, a thread in a specific Kingdom, or even just a character highlight.

  • A second update can go here. They can be virtually any length, but will be kept short for organization.

  • Look! A wild third update has appeared. Better throw a pokeball at it.

Epilogue
World of Lycaenos

In its infancy, Lycaenos was a land that belonged to the humans. They built cities, temples and homes in favor of their own gods but when Chaos and Ether collided and the elemental magics were introduced, the humans were unable to survive the cataclysm. As a result, they were wiped from the face of the landscape and in its rebirth, Lyca went to the wolves. They were quick to claim the ruins for their very own and adopt many human-like characteristics in how they lived and cultivated the land, yet marking it equally with their wild and untamed natures. While magic was present and flourishing, the Nations didn't yet exist: as a result, with the introduction of the Nations the magic consecrated itself to be bound by a wolf's affiliation in order for it to be wielded and consumed.

Flora & Landscape
The land of Lycaenos is comprised of a mix of many biomes that include coastal beaches, grassy lowlands, heavy and climbing mountain ranges as well as forests and the occasional volcano or lava-field. Being heavily Mediterranean, these biomes blend seamlessly with all flavor of olive tree, oak, spruce and more. The forests themselves exist in the more alpine parts of Lyca, which are found in the mid to higher altitudes and consist of primarily fir, pine and spruce while the lower-altitude forests mostly have poplars, oaks and cypress trees. It's common for bushes and other flowery growth to coexist among the forests.

Fruit trees are incredibly common, with Olive being one of the most well-known. Citrus (orange, lemon, lime, clementine) can be found strewn throughout the landscape while apple, pear, fig and peach are less common but exist nonetheless in small groves, particularly outside the central City where the humans once grew them in orchards. Roses, daisies, poppies and various other wildflowers grow consistently across the landscape with little care to altitude or climate, making the wilds of Lyca very beautiful during Spring and Summer months.

Though the largest bodies of water are by far the surrounding sea, rivers and lakes pepper across Lyca that stretch from the mountain-tops, glacier-fed and fresh that feed many of the resulting tributaries year-round with little worry for drought.

Climate & Seasons
Mediterranean climate plays a heavy role across Lyca, making it a very pleasant place to exist throughout most of the seasons save for the occasional storm or typhoon. Summers are typically hot and dry in the midlands while the coastal territories can be humid and warm, while Winters are quite cold and wet with snowfall covering much of the northern and high-altitude lands. Fall and Spring are a variance therein, and it isn't uncommon for dryads to be spotted at the beginning of each season as they usher in new growth, etc.

In a land of gods and magic, however, it won't be largely out of hand should they play a part in changing the weather as they see fit if only to play with the mortals themselves.

Fauna & Wildlife
Lycaenos is flush with predator and prey alike. Although the wolves can count themselves as one of the primary predators of the area, they do not exist alone: several species lurk the landscape and can pose just as much a threat to the wolves as they do to the available prey supply. Wildcats, bears, jackals, lynx and even large species of badger have been known to cause problems -- sometimes even of the mortal variety -- for the wolves, in addition to being competition for food.

Several species of deer, wild boar, rabbit, and even seals (coastal) provide a variety of prey for the wolves to hunt and consume.
